Overview
In Amargeti, monuments dedicated to the heroes Socrates Hatzievangelou, Athanasios Georgiou and Arrestis Panagiotou and to the missing person Giannakis Georgiou were created. One Monument is located in the square of the community, while the others are in the churchyard. In the square there is a plaque with the names of the three heroes and the one missing person while in the churchyard there is a bust of the heroes Athanasio Georgiou along with Arrestis Panagiotou and a plaque with a tribute to Giannakis Georgiou who has been missing since 1974. Socrates X. Evangelou fell fighting during the 55-59 struggle in the trouble with the English and Turks that took place in the area of Xeros Potamos. Athanasios Georgiou fell on the day of the coup in the Archbishopric in the line of duty defending the Republic. Arestis Panagiotou fell fighting against the Turkish invaders in Klepini of Kyrenia on the 22nd of August 1974. Giannakis Georgiou has been missing since the summer of 1974, a tragic consequence of the Turkish invasion.
